Remington Caves Despite Ostensible Protection Under Federal Law

"Remington Offers $33M Settlement in Sandy Hook Case

Gunmaker Remington has offered to pay $33 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the families of victims of the Sandy Hook shooting. The lawsuit was filed by the families of nine of the shooting victims. Per the settlement, each family would receive over $3.5 million. However, the settlement offer is less than the $225 million wrongful death claims and additional punitive claims sought by the plaintiffs"

This may be related to Remington's bankruptcy, but it is a poor move. It assumes a liability which does not exist, per the Protection of Lawful Commerce and Arms Act. It is the equivalent of GM paying victims of drunks who drove Chevies or Buicks.
